Payphone

I really love to start a post and say a year ago because nothing really matters until it hits that threshold and nothing results thereafter, I mean there really is no two years ago. But a year ago today, Payphone was released. So to commemorate this occasion, I went on a mad search via Tumblr trying to locate gifs and queue all those spectacular posts but I didn’t find anything up to my standards. The next best thing then has got to be a text post about the song that just means so much to me. I don’t need to explain that part, everyone knows why I love Payphone. I mean, I love this song so much that I no longer hear it in English anymore, it’s straight Cantonese. My brain has dubbed over the entire song with another language, It’s that astonishing. Thinking about it now, Payphone has become more than a song to me. It’s become an identifying quality, that people just relate the song to me. It absolutely brightens my day when one of my friends just texts me on any given day now and just say Payphone is playing. That simple gesture, it’s rarity now when it plays and the fact that people remember it’s amazing. But seriously though Happy Birthday Payphone, I wouldn’t say this was the best thing to happen to me but it’s been a crazy year. This song will always be at the center of it, and I really wouldn’t have any other song define me, my year than this.

ARE YOU HAPPY PEOPLE, GOTYE ALREADY ROBBED PAYPHONE THIS EVENING NOW HE’S ROBBED TAYLOR SWIFT!

I AM MAD

DAMN IT GOTYE YOU ALREADY WON FOR BEST ALERNATIVE ALBUM WALKED OFF, NOW YOU WIN AGAIN FOR BEST DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE!

Payphone

I did a post like this last year for Moves Like Jagger, so here’s my obligatory Grammy rant. Since everyone now knows why I love Payphone so much, there must only be one agenda for this post. You don’t really know how much I want Payphone to win the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. SERIOUSLY PAYPHONE NEEDS TO WIN! With my own personal conflicts aside, this song was so big in 2012 and to see go without recognition this long or forever will be a shame. The song was completely shut down for its first 2 weeks by Somebody That I Used To Know which happens to be nominated too, then shut down 9 more weeks because Call Me Maybe just dominated the charts. When it finally had a chance to top, Payphone fell into irrelevancy only to have another song, One More Night, take its place. In a bizarre twist, One More Night began to top riding off the wave of Payphone and it dominated the charts for 9 weeks like Payphone was supposed to. Well you know what, Call Me Maybe and One More Night didn’t need to dominate as long as it did, if it were up to me Payphone would have just been there for 18 weeks. Now I’m starting to sound delusional so I’ll stop while I’m ahead. Still good luck to all of the nominees in the category and I wonder how Taylor Swift is going to fair.

There’s only one song left on my computer, Payphone.
